I am a Lecturer in Applied Ethics in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Glasgow, Director of Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations at the COGITO Epistemology Research Centre, and a steering committee member of the University of Glasgow's Centre for Neurotechnology. I am also an elected Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe, where I serve on the board as Chair of the Selection Committee. I currently hold a UKRI AI Metascience Fellowship and am also Co-I on a UKRI cross-research-council grant on neurotechnology. My research primarily sits at the intersection of applied ethics, philosophy of technology and epistemology, where some of my main interests include bioethics, neuroethics, artificial intelligence and the ethics of human enhancement. A central theme of my work is exploring how emerging technologies affect our responsibility, well-being, and relationships. My monograph Human Enhancement and Well-Being: A Case for Optimism (Routledge, 2022) engages with bioconservative worries about medical and technological enhancement and proposes a framework for systematically assessing proposals for cognitive, moral, and emotional enhancement. I have published in venues such as Bioethics, PLOS Biology, Journal of Applied Philosophy, Neuroethics, Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, and Philosophical Psychology, and I am an associate Editor at Philosophia and an editorial board member at Philosophical Quarterly. My work has been cited in the United Nations Human Development Report as well as multiple entries of the Stanford Encyclopedia. You can contact me at [email protected] |
